To buy a Telegram username, connect a TON wallet such as Tonkeeper or MyTonWallet to fragment.com, then bid in the name's auction or pay its buy-now price; if you are outbid, Fragment refunds you automatically. To sell, connect your Telegram account and wallet, choose "Convert to Collectibles" for any username you own, and set a minimum bid; the first bid starts a 7-day auction. Fragment takes 5% of every sale, plus a one-time 5 GRAM fee when a regular username is first converted. Set your expectations from the data: of 95,634 username sales recorded on-chain in July to September 2026, 77% closed at about 10 TON (around $16), while every 4-letter name sold for at least 2,400 TON.
Telegram is the one major platform where usernames are openly bought and sold, with prices anyone can check. That openness also means a lot of the advice online is stale: the token has been renamed, identity checks have arrived, and the price data now tells you what most names are really worth. This guide covers how buying and selling actually works on Fragment in 2026, what it costs, and what names really sell for, using the public sales records we index.
In June 2026 the TON blockchain's token was renamed Gram (GRAM) after a community vote. Balances converted 1:1, so 1 TON equals 1 GRAM. Fragment now shows prices in GRAM; most price histories, including ours, still read in TON. They are the same unit.
What You Are Actually Buying
A username bought on Fragment is a collectible: an NFT on the TON blockchain. Whoever holds the token in their wallet controls the @handle and its t.me link, and can attach it to their own profile, a public group or a channel. You can move it between wallets for free, resell it, or switch which chat it points to at any time.
Two details surprise first-time buyers. First, a collectible does not replace your regular username. Per Fragment's own guide, any profile, group or channel can have up to one basic username and any number of collectible usernames. Second, using a collectible on a bot needs a one-time upgrade fee on top of the purchase.
Fragment is not run by Telegram itself. Telegram's FAQ says usernames can be bought and sold "through third-party platforms like Fragment", and Fragment's terms name its operator as Fragment Corp. in the Seychelles. Telegram introduced collectible usernames with its November 2022 update.
How to Buy a Telegram Username
Set up a TON wallet
Fragment's guide suggests Tonkeeper or MyTonWallet. Write down the recovery words and keep them offline: Fragment cannot restore a lost wallet, and losing the words means losing the wallet, the funds and every collectible in it.
Fund it with GRAM
Buy GRAM on an exchange or through the @wallet bot in Telegram, then send it to your wallet. Leave a little extra for blockchain fees.
Find the name on fragment.com
Search the username. A name can be on auction, listed at a fixed price, sold and held by someone, or not on the market at all. Our Telegram username checker shows the same status alongside its full price history.
Bid or buy now
Connect your wallet and place a bid. Each lot shows the next minimum bid, and sellers can set a maximum price that ends the auction immediately if you pay it. If someone outbids you, your GRAM is refunded to your wallet automatically, usually within seconds.
Assign it to your account
Once you win, connect your Telegram account on Fragment, open My Assets, tap Assign to Telegram and pick the chat. Then switch it on inside Telegram: Settings, Username for your profile, or Links order in a group or channel's settings.
Fragment introduced mandatory identity verification (KYC) for username purchases in November 2024, with an ID scan and a face check. Have your documents ready before you bid on something time-sensitive.
Bidding on a name that is not for sale
If the username you want is held by someone and not listed, Fragment lets you "Make an offer". You pay a small non-refundable fee that notifies the owner, and the amount you type is not binding. If the owner then lists it, it goes to a public auction at a minimum bid they choose, and anyone can bid, including you. An offer is a nudge, not a reservation.
Buying on Getgems instead
Collectible usernames are standard TON NFTs, so they also trade on other NFT marketplaces. The biggest is Getgems, whose fee page lists a 1% marketplace fee for Telegram usernames, and which has said it does not require KYC. The trade-off is the same as any secondary market: check that the NFT is a genuine Telegram username collectible before you pay.
What Telegram Usernames Actually Sell For
We index every username sale recorded on the TON blockchain. Here is how the July to September 2026 quarter breaks down by name length:
| Name length | Sales | Closed at about 10 TON | Sold for 100+ TON | Sold for 1,000+ TON |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 characters | 742 | 0% | 100% | 100% (typical sale about 5,800 TON) |
| 5 characters | 23,443 | 73% | 9.5% | 0.5% |
| 6 characters | 14,367 | 76% | 9.9% | 0.6% |
| 7 characters | 11,699 | 76% | 9.3% | 0.6% |
| 8 or more | 45,383 | 81% | 7.6% | 0.3% |
The market splits in two. Below five characters, names cannot be registered through the Telegram app at all, so 4-letter names exist only as collectibles, and they trade like it: the cheapest 4-letter sale of the quarter was 2,400 TON and the typical one about 5,800 TON, roughly $9,000 at today's price. From five characters up, the default outcome is a sale at or near 10 TON, the opening bid on 84% of the auctions that started that quarter. Only about one sale in twelve reached 100 TON, and fewer than one in 200 reached 1,000.
What lifts a name out of the floor is the same at every length: a real dictionary word, a commercial meaning you could run a business under, or a pattern people collect (repeated letters, lucky numbers in the bid). The top of the range is in our ranking of the most expensive Telegram usernames ever sold, and you can browse what sells at each length on the 4-letter and 5-letter market pages.
How to Sell a Telegram Username
There are two situations: selling a regular username you already use, or reselling a collectible you bought.
Selling a regular username you own
Fragment's guide says any basic username from your Telegram account can be auctioned. Selling it converts it into a collectible:
Connect Telegram and a wallet you own
Log in to Fragment with your Telegram account and connect your TON wallet. The connected wallet receives the auction proceeds, so double-check it is yours.
Choose Convert to Collectibles
Tap your wallet in the top right corner, choose Convert to Collectibles, and pick the username from the list.
Set a minimum bid and confirm
Buyers must pay at least this amount. Confirm the request in Telegram when Fragment's bot asks.
Wait for the first bid
The name stays listed with no deadline until someone bids. The first bid starts a 7-day auction, and from that moment you can no longer cancel. Before the first bid, you can withdraw it.
Telegram can refuse the conversion. Per Fragment, the usual reasons are that you have no two-step verification password on your account or set one up very recently, you have not owned the username long enough, you moved it recently (for example from your profile to a channel), or Telegram suspects bad faith. While the name is listed you cannot reassign it to a different chat.
Reselling a collectible
If you already hold a collectible username, open it on Fragment and choose to sell it at a fixed price or put it up for auction. You can also list it on Getgems. There is no conversion fee the second time around, only the platform fee and blockchain fees.
What selling costs you
| Fee | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|
| Fragment platform fee | 5% of the sale | Every collectible sale on Fragment |
| Conversion fee | 5 GRAM, flat | Once, deducted from the first auction of a converted regular username |
| Blockchain fees | Small network fees | Each on-chain transaction |
| Getgems marketplace fee | 1% for usernames | Sales on Getgems instead of Fragment |
Put the fees next to the price data before you list. A regular username that sells at the common 10 GRAM floor nets you about 4.5 GRAM after the 5% fee and the one-time conversion fee, before blockchain fees, so a few dollars. Converting only makes financial sense for names with a real reason to sell above the floor: a dictionary word, a brand-able short name, or a niche that a business would pay for. If yours is an ordinary personal handle, keep it.
Staying Safe
- Type fragment.com yourself. Phishing pages that imitate Fragment circulate through bots and direct messages and try to get you to connect a wallet or reveal your recovery words. Fragment never needs your recovery words.
- Purchases are non-refundable. Fragment's terms say so explicitly, and a blockchain transaction cannot be reversed. Check the name, the price and the wallet before you confirm.
- Brand names carry legal risk. Holding @nike on Telegram gives you the handle, not the trademark. Using a brand's name commercially invites disputes, as we cover in buying and selling social media handles.
- Your Telegram account matters. Fragment's terms say ownership of the collectible cannot be revoked, but if your Telegram account is banned or deleted, linking the name to it may no longer be possible. Telegram's FAQ also notes that collectible usernames can only be managed by their owners, so support cannot hand one back to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Bottom Line
Buying a Telegram username takes a TON wallet, some GRAM and a few minutes on Fragment, and most names cost about as much as a lunch. Selling is just as easy mechanically, but the data is clear that ordinary names sell at the floor, so the fees eat most of a low sale. The money is in short names, real words and commercial meaning. Before you bid or list, look up the name's history so you know what it, and names like it, actually sold for.
